Streets of Imari 伊万里

My father took this photo when we visited a town called Imari in Japan. The town was full of small shops that sold ceramic objects and little streams flowed downhill among the beautiful buildings. I'd like to go again!

1 minute sketches １分スケッチ

These are quick sketches of people taking no longer than a minute to make artists begin drawing from the overall shape of a person. I began doing these in fourth grade because I liked to draw others (during class) but no one ever stood still for more than a minute. Years later I would discover that this method was really practiced.

人体の全体の形を理解しそれを始めに描く練習のためにする絵画法：１分以内に誰かを描く。私はこの方法を小学四年生の時発見して（授業中クラスメイトを描くのが好きだったが誰もじっとしていないので、短時間で誰かを描く方法を編み出した）のちに私はこの練習法が本当に利用されている事を知る。

Mother and Child 母と子

These are a drawing and painting I did looking at an old photo I found of my mother and my younger brother. My father took this photograph. At one look I fell in love with how well he had captured the moment. I began sketching but then thought "It might look better as a watercolor" so I painted it also. The colors of the watercolor didn't turn out so good.

母と弟の昔の写真を見つけて描きました。父が撮ったらしいです。あまりにもその瞬間が上手くとらえられていたので描きたくなりました。はじめにスケッチをしたのですが終わらないうちに「水彩の方がいいかもしれない」と思い水彩画の方を描いた訳です。色彩がよくなかったかな？
